Awards categories

Partnership Award

This category recognises initiatives that have achieved significant impact by enhancing town and gown relations through a multi-agency partnership approach.  Initiatives will need to demonstrate leadership in fostering town-gown relations, the impact they have been able to achieve, and how this has been guided by student and community priorities.

Student Citizenship Award

This category recognised initiatives, projects and campaigns that have helped to support student citizenship. This could include influencing or educating students on a particular town and gown issue or providing an opportunity to positively engage with local communities. Applicants will need to demonstrate how student and community voices and priorities have been incorporated into the initiative and the impact the initiative has been able to achieve.

Community Champion Award

Let’s recognize the unsung heroes who work quietly and tirelessly to support our communities. This award is open to any individual staff member who has gone above and beyond to make a difference for our students and the wider community. It acknowledges people at any level who have implemented a community project or initiative (or several) and whose involvement has had a positive impact on their peers, their institution, their students, and their local community.

Student-Led Community Initiative Award

Our students are frequently aware of the difficulties of integrating and living sustainably within their new university city or town. They often provide unique and insightful solutions to resolve the social and environmental challenges arising from high concentrations of students and a lack of experience and life skills. This category recognizes the important role that our students play in influencing our approach and implementing grassroots solutions to Town and Gown challenges. Examples could include campaigns, community projects, research, and volunteering activities.

International Award

An opportunity to showcase the amazing work of our international colleagues. The international award category is open to any town-and-gown initiative with demonstrable impacts in addressing town-and-gown challenges globally. This may include any student-led, partnership, student citizenship initiative or community champion working anywhere outside of the UK. Applicants will need to demonstrate how student and community voices and priorities have been incorporated into the initiative and the impact the initiative has been able to achieve.
