Transportation

By Air

The most convenient international airport to Reading is Heathrow Airport (21 miles), with frequent direct flights to the UK from North America and around the world, and direct rail connections to Reading. Other major airports include London Gatwick Airport (39 miles).

By Rail

Reading’s primary railway station is Reading, which is served by both frequent National Rail services and the Elizabeth Line. A one way Elizabeth Line ticket to Reading from Heathrow costs £18-£24 and takes approximately 45 minutes. The secondary National Rail station near to the university is Earley.

By Bus (within Reading)

You can take the 21 or 20 bus routes from outside the main Reading station in the town centre to Whiteknights Campus. The 20 is the faster route running directly to campus in approximately 15 minutes and making only one stop. When you arrive on campus, there will be Student Ambassadors to meet you at the bus stop and show you how to find The Meadow Suite. If you are not taking the bus from the town centre, Reading has well connected bus routes and you can plan your journey by downloading the Reading Buses app or using their website. You can purchase your ticket on the app or tap on/tap off on the bus using a card.

By Car

The M4 motorway passes just south of Reading, with connections at junctions 10, 11, and 12. Reading is also served by the A329/A329(M), A4, and A33. If you are travelling by car, please use Car Park 1a at the Shinfield Road entrance to the campus. You will be provided with a parking permit to display, which is required so you don’t get a ticket. When you arrive on campus, there will be Student Ambassadors to meet you at the car park and show you how to find The Meadow Suite. We have also created a walking route platform so you can navigate your way from Car Park 1a.
